Commonly Asked Questions About Divorce & Mediation

  • How much will it cost?

Uncontested Divorces - We offer a flat fee structure. In the event your spouse retains an attorney and negotiation becomes necessary, then your fee will vary based on the complexity of your individual case.

Contested Divorces - In general, any contested case that requires litigation will necessitate payment of a retainer fee. You will be billed an hourly rate against this retainer fee and asked to replenish the retainer as it is used. Please call for a specific estimate for your case.

  • How long will it take?

Uncontested Divorces - It will take two to three months, providing there is truly no disagreement. Divorces by publication will last four months, subject to the court's schedule.

Contested Cases - These cases typically last three months to a year, depending on the complexity of the issues. Please call for a specific estimate for your case.

  • How do family mediation services differ from attorney services?

Mediation works best when parties are amicable and fully aware of their assets, debts, and the earnings of the other spouse. In mediation, you do not receive legal advice; rather, you are assisted by a neutral third party to arrive at a compromise both parties can live with. Since both parties meet with the mediator with or without attorneys, the parties equally share in the cost.
